I keep hearing mixed reviews on call clarity on cingular. Can anyone shed some light on that subject?

It was very iffy until I dropped my pearl on hard ceramic flooring. Now the quality and clarity is great

Seriously though, I live in NJ and when I first got it I was pretty underwhelmed with the call quality. Even in areas where I had 4-5 bars, the quality of the calls was pretty bad. I switched from Verizon which I *never* had problems with so maybe I was just spoiled. However, for completely inexplicable reasons, ever since I dropped my Pearl, the call quality is easily on par with Verizon (aka pretty much flawless). Go figure!

I find I can get a strong signal in places I can't get any signal on my VZW cell, but I frequently get garbled conversation on cingy's network and definitely more dropped calls then VZW! But, cingular has the newest technology and doesn't cripple their phones...

Also its very important what area of the country you're in. If you're in the NY area (tri-state area), Cingular used to be real bad even a year or two ago, but they're making big strides in this area and are advertising like crazy (this is VZW country). So if you live in this area I fully expect the quality of their network to dramatically improve over next 1-2 years.

I live in chicago. I was using a cingular 8525 but it's impossible to do anything one handed on that device. The call quality, however, was impressive. Not one garbled call. I returned it for the much smaller pearl and on my car ride home immediately noticed garbled call carity. It sucks because every other quality about that phone rules. I may just get a treo 680 and use chatter email for push services. I really wish the Pearl was better as a phone though.

No problems here with the call quality on the Pearl. Every bit as good as the call quality on my 7130c.

Are we talking about the call quality with the Pearl Phone, or the network?

I got a Pearl about a week ago. The sound quality is better than the BlackBerrt 7100g I used to have. Sound is definately clearer and louder. Seems to hold a call better in weak signal areas.

As far as the network goes, it does depend on what area of the country you are asking about.

If we are speaking to the Pearl Quality. I will ditto that comment. I switched from an 8700C to the 8100C and I have found:

- Almost no dropped calls
- Caller voice levels are higher
- My speaking voice does not have to be as loud

However, I have noticed that I have a few more missed calls - not sure if this is the network here in Jacksonville FL or the device.

Sound quality is great on mine as well.

Signal quality isn't so hot at my house. My house has a weak signal anyway. I used to get at least (but no more than) 2 or 3 bars on my Treo, RAZR, and Nokia. I don't get any signal, sometimes 1 bar on my Pearl.

I live in southwestern Pa, and go to ccollege in the northwestern part. Both places I have had pretty good call coverage. The only time I can notice that there is static is when I am in a basement. Other than that the call quality is pretty darn good.

The call quality IMO is very good on the pearl. I came from a Nokia e61 (very good call quality) and from a 8700c, and I will say the Pearl is the best. Solid rf, and no complaints of too much background noise. BTW Cingular is very good in DC...

I find the Pearl provides a significant improvement in both signal strength and audio clarity over the Treo 650 I used before.
