I am a Cingular 7290 user. I am pleased w/ the device 95% of the time. I did not upgrade to the 8700c since most of the folks I talked to said it was nice but not light years ahead. I also passed on the Pearl since I do not like sure type, I am now looking at the 8800 and I am a little uneasy about the push to talk feature that is included. I guess I am asking the same question...is it really worth it? How good is it? has anyone gone from the 7290 to the 8800?Thanks

"Worth it" will be dictated by your personal preference...but there is a MAJOR difference.

PTT shouldn't be the deciding factor for you. It's not necessary to have in order to enjoy the benefits of the product.

I have a 7290 and I'm in about the same position as you -- passing on the 8700 and the Pearl. My only hesitation about the 8800 is some negative comments I've seen here and elsewhere about the "crowded" keyboard as compared to the 7290. I plan to visit a Cingular store soon and see for myself. (The PTT feature is basically irrelevant for me.)

I'm on day 5 with my new 8800, after using an 8700, and 7290. I have large hands and loved the 7290, then I found the 8700 keyboard nearly unusable.

I think most of the negative comments you read here are from those who do not like change and resist adapting. Not everyone, but some. Also many of these people are giving a report after trying it for 10 minutes in the store.

I was fine with mine after just 20 minutes and now that I have had it 5 days I cannot imagine anything else. Oh, and by the way I process about 80-100 emails per day.

My 8800 has a really great keyboard. I'm faster on it that I was on the 7290 because key travel is a bit more shallow and easy to get used to.

The 8800 is the best BB I've had. I am 100% happy with it.
