Default Newbi to the forum and my 8700c need a little help....

Please Login to Remove!

I'm glad to have found this forum and hope to learn a lot an hopefully contribute in the future.

I recently purchased an unlocked 8700c on Ebay and it came with no software. I think the edge version on the phone is 4.1.0.194. I see that on the "About" screen.

I downloaded and installed the 4.1 version of the Desktop Manager from the Balckberry website. Connected my powered on BB top my desktop via a USB cable and it connects, disconnects and reconnects about 6 or 7 times but never shows as being connected on the Desktop Manager dialog. As well I get the twirling hour glass with a white screen.

Do I need to load some other software? I did not load any device managment software.

You want to download the Blackberry handheld software as well. Install that and voila - windows will see your BB better and you'll be able to load/backup/restore etc from the Desktop manager.

Also, I recommend using the latest version of the Desktop Manager which is 4.2 SP1 on the blackberry website. You can get it here:

Huh? You don't need the handheld software to connect the BB to DM. You do need it if you want to use App Loader or to upgrade the BB's OS.

I'd suggest going into Connections and hitting the Detect button with the BB connected to the USB cable. The PIN should appear when it detects your BB.
