Default Possible to NOT mark emails as read?

Please Login to Remove!

Setup:
-8100 handset.
-Cingular.
-BIS.
-Pushing my work email from an Exchange server. I don't know exactly what method it uses since I just typed my address and password into the Blackberry BIS website. But when I go to the advanced advanced (again, BB BIS website) it shows me the address I would use if I were checking my mail via a web browser: https://mail._________.com/exchange.

Problem:
After I read an email on my handset, it is marked as read on the server. I realize that some may like this feature, but I don't. I would like to never have them marked as read on the server. I know I can just mark them unread on the handset after I read them, but I'd rather not. My Gmail account works just the way I want it to. I can read them on the BB but it is not marked as read on the server.

Anyone know of a solution? I searched this forum but couldn't find anything.

You might try setting up BIS to access you email a different way.

The best way to get there is to enter a bogus password when you add your email account to BIS. It will then prompt you to enter the email settings and you can choose POP3, IMAP4, Exchange or whatever. Each acts a little differently and might do what you want. I'd try POP3. Sounds like you are using the Exchange settings and that's not working. I use IMAP and I believe that does mark the mail as read on the server (which I like).

Another option is setting up exchange to forward to your gmail account.

From your message list:
Go into options and then into Email reconciliation.

Turn wireless reconcile off.

That should stop it from marking them as read.

Ran a few tests with this and it looks like it's exactly what I'm looking for.

Thanks a million!
