Another question...does it have voice turn by turn directions?
also, how accurate is it, as far as directions routing?
and, how long does it take to acquire satelite signal on start up?
FINALLY...does it consume a lot of bettery life?

THANKS GUYS!

T-Mo CSR's are reading from a script. They (usually) know nothing about the actual product.

My 8800 arrived yesterday. It took about 5 minutes the first time to acquire the satellite signals. After that, each time I've turned on GPS, it finds the signal in about 5 seconds.

It has been very accurate as far as pinpointing the location. As usual, directions aren't always for the shortest or easiest path. If there is a freeway in the area, it will almost always recommend you go that route, regardless of how far away the destination is.

I believe TeleNav is the only program that has voice prompts.

That is a wonderful guide on the GPS.....thank you!

It says Wayfinder has turn by turn also...I was hoping there would be a free program that would provide the voice prompts..

Wayfinder is $99 one time, unlimited and Telenav is $9.99/month

I guess one could just use BBMaps but I prefer the voice because it would be annoying (and somewhat dangerous) to keep having to look down at the BB.

An 8800 is an 8800. If it doesn't have GPS it's not an 8800.

Do you really have to ask? Reps are people. They make mistakes. Some don't know. Some are relying on incorrect information provided to them. It's not like every rep has time to become an expert on every single device that a carrier offers.

That's going to depend (like on any other BB) on which GPS app you're using. The GPS receiver itself only picks up signals from GPS satellites to triangulate your location. Everything else is determined by your GPS app. Read up on GPS and the 8800 (again, an 8800 is an 8800, regardless of carrier) -- there's a ton of information on this site that will answer your questions.

Mapquest Navigator does as well.

Now thats funny!! I have the Model #WIFE gps system as well. Very audible with voice and very little volume control with no mute! Some of you I know have the customized model that adds explitives as well! The weird part is that once you have it... you cant turn it off or even uninstall without paying a GREAT deal of money to do so!!!!!

My non-BB GPS model#ex-Wife constantly points her lawyers to my exact location. Obviously she's installed new software.. it wasn't that long ago she could only find a mall.
