Default 7250 Ir?

Please Login to Remove!

Does the IR port on the 7250 (through Verizon) work? Since they did not put a SD slot of any kind IR might be decent. Thanks.

I haven't found an IR port on my 7250. What do you see that looks like an IR port?

Most all of the current BB's ( I don't think the 7100's do) have an IR port on the top of the BB. It is not functional though. According to RIM they thought about using it but never did, and just left it as part of the case design.
Would be interesting to know if it is even wired to the mainboard, or if they just have the port there... Anyone taken theirs apart and know?

Default Nextel 7250..

The "PPT" button is located on the top of my Nextel for the two-way usage. RIM could have possibly put what you are calling the IR port at the top just to fill in the whole. If it is actually an IR port, would be nice if RIM would make it functional for ya!

My 7250 also looks like it has an IR window. It is just a bit right of the phone button that is right in the middle of the top side of the phone, diagonal from the blinky light. No evidence that it can do anything.

I'm sure Verizon is behind the crippling of IR! LOL

There is no IR port. A little red lens maybe, but nothing that can do IR. Some BlackBerrys have the little red lens. Many do not. Doesn't matter. No BlackBerrys can do IR. Just like no BBs can do Bluetooth data transfers (now).

(tobenning - pretty funny)

Keith,

That little window is the light that notifies you that you have a message.

Dusty--

No, it is NOT the little light. I'm quite certain we know what that is. Keith is correct, on the 7250 and my 7290, there is a glossy window that looks just like it should be an IR port. It is not the Phone button (that is in the center), it is not the little message light (which is much much smaller than the "IR" window). I don't have my digicam with me but I'll try to find a photo of the top of a 7290.

mrogers is correct, my 7250 has the same three items on the top (the phone button, the tiny red message indicator light, and what looks like an IR lens). Not to say it has IR capabilities, I think it was established earlier in this thread that it doesn't, but I do see that IR-like part, too.

Yes, it is correct that there are no IR capabilities even though we have the window for it. I actually asked that same question somewhere on here a couple weeks ago after someone tried to get me to beam contact info to their Palm and I couldn't find the IR functionality in the OS! It's too bad...I think it would have been a nice feature.
