No 3rd Party Apps ...This is going to be a true killer of this phone.

I heard it was coming in at some rediculous price even after the service agreement and discounts are applied!

Visit the site for each. The info is already out there. If you're seriously considering both as options against each other, I'd suggest that you re-evaluate what it is that you want as I don't see how anyone would select them for comparison...

IMHO this is like shopping for a pickup truck and considering a convertible as one of your options. Probably not the best analogy but they're really very different devices and unless your needs/wants are very simple then odds are that you shouldn't be considering the iPhone versus the 8800.

These "what is best?" questions always seem to be posed by people who don't state anything regarding what their needs/wants are. That will play a crucial point in deciding what's best for you. If one single wireless device was the absolute best then we would all be using it. Clearly (and thankfully), that's not the case.

It's true, they are like comparing trucks and convertibles, wait what?!
Nah, just because they are top of the line phones, and I really want to stay BB for life. I'm going with the 8800 for my next phone.

ps: GPS is awesome, but how good is it!? Does it have the digital girl telling you to turn RIGHT, LEFT..??

Yes, it's a legitimate GPS replacement. I've used a standalone GPS device, a BT puck with my PDA, the early version of VZNavigator, and now TeleNav, and TeleNav does it just as well as the standalone without requiring a separate device. It is, in fact, a very nice solution to the GPS/Navi "need". The only caveat is you should avoid needing to get re-routed in the "stix" as it needs to have cell coverage to reload the maps to re-route you (the GPS signal works fine wherever, though).

As for the subject at hand (i.e. iPhone v. BB 8800), the lack of any sort of push email (except through Yahoo!), much less two-way reconciliation, the lack of GPS (important for the reasons stated above), the lack of 3G (and, please don't start with the 3G is overhyped line, and I know the 8800 is only EDGE as well, but it's also 1/2 the price), the touch-screen based keyboard (which necessarily eliminates the tactile element of typing on which many of us rely -- even when we don't know it) all mean the 8800 was the right choice for me.

Not to mention, I'm not sure if my firm supports whatever platform would be required to push/reconcile work email to the iPhone, but they do fully support BES (as well as Windows Mobile)....

In other words, for folks who use their device *primarily* for business use, I think they'll find that the 8800 is probably a better solution -- at this point anyway.

Think about using the iPhone with no buttons while driving down the road trying to find that one contact you know is in there, but have to scroll through all your contacts to find, or use the onscreen keyboard to narrow things down. It's an accident that's going to happen.

I'm surprised no review I have seen of the iPhone has ever mentioned this small flaw. I had an Windows Mobile 5 XV6700 (slide-out keyboard) and trying to use the touch-screen to do things while driving is dangerous. I love having the keyboard always accessible.
