Default 8700c help

Please Login to Remove!

I resold a 8700 from Cingular/ATT and am trying to help the buyer activate her own email account. The problem is that the phone is "locked" to another BIS or BES account and we need to get it released. Unfortunately, there is no way to contact the original owner. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this issue? ATT has not to this point been much help to resolve the issue. Thanks in advance!

If the phone was just on BIS in the past, you need to go to the previous owner and have them cancel their BIS account with their carrier which will release the IMEI and PIN for you to use. If the previous owner will not do it, you can try going to their carrier to see if they will do it. Some will, some won't. As a last resort RIM might help. If the phone happens to be on the lost or stolen list, then I don't think any carrier will activate it.

If it was on BES, there maybe IT policies prohibiting you setting up BIS. DO a search on Remove IT Policies". There are many threads discussing how to do it.
