Default My trackball isn't working!

Please Login to Remove!

Hey y'all,

I just received a Blackberry Pearl as a gift (bad idea because I suck w/ gadgets =p ) but after only 2 weeks of it working great something happened to the trackball. Whenever I try to use the trackball to open/select something, it only types Q. The trackball moves and everything, it's only when I try to press it. It also happens when I try to press the keypad. Only Q, and then quque would pop up. It doesn't matter what button I press, only qu would pop up as many times as I press a button.

I have no idea what's wrong with it. I haven't dropped it once so if y'all could; please help! I hope I made sense, sorry if I didn't, I don't know how else to describe the problem. Thanks for any help y'all can give me.

Did it get wet? Did you try removing the battery and reinserting it?

Thank you for your replies!

I have no idea how to clean it and I'm scared of trying to open it up myself and messing it up even more; would that make the warranty void? I don't believe it got wet but I did try removing the battery and inserting it back in several times. I've even let it sit open without the back cover and the battery overnight because some of my co-workers suggested it. I tried using it again today and it still did the same thing.

I am so still at a loss for what could have happened.

if its still under warranty then yes it may void it, but this is how you would take apart the trackball assembly

http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...ck-em-out.html

you could also try just using that compressed air in a can you use on keyboards and spray the trackball(TB) and hoope that works... if not then it could be a phone issue and should be covered under warranty

good luck

Remove the battery.

Then press the trackball, move it around and around.

Also clean it with some Windex [don't spray on the trackball, spray on a towel and apply to trackball].

Move it around and around again, while pressing the hell out of it, not hard, just a lot.

Put battery back in, see if it works.

If not, then call tech support for your carrier. They will walk you through same steps above. If it does not work they will replace.

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE THE TRACKBALL AND FIX. If you screw it up, warranty is VOID!

I say all of the above because one time mine acted erratic. Did what I described and it has been fine ever since.

Thanks so much for the help! I'll try what you suggest. If not, I'm hoping the store can fix it.

Had the same problem, erratic trackball. It would only go up. Did what SanFransico suggested and it has worked great ever since.
