No, it's not, you just need the right software tools to do this. This has been done before and posted on a couple of forums. Unfortunatly, I can't point you in the right direction. All that has to be done is setup the DUN portion of the CDMA network to match that of the WAP one.

Randyman posted it either here or on another forum. It is possible. All it does is DUN the same way WAP does. So, as long as you're not busting major data via DUN it'll look like regular WAP data usage. If however you show a big jump in usage then you might get busted. It has to do with the fact that on large data usage a person doesn't usually use WAP because of the limitations the browser has for "webpage quality/layout". Not only that, but you'll also show connections "directly" to sites rather then through the usual proxys (RIM or Opera). It's kind of a dead giveaway if they track it.

To my knowledge (as of 4 weeks ago) MobiShark does not work with the 8830.

I tried MobiShark on the 8830 a month or so ago and it didn't work well at all. I could get data for a short time, then it would stop. Restarting the connection would make it work for a while then stop working (like a minute). Having to tell Internet Explorer to use a proxy was also a pain, then turn it off when I was using any other connection.

I personally doubt that using MobiShark would get you blacklisted on Verizon. The BB uses the same connection all the time to get email, maps, PocketDay updates and all that, all the time. As long as you have an unlimited plan I doubt using MobiShark would crank it up that much. Of course I could be wrong.

That being said I ponied up the money for VZAccess and I've been very happy. It provides a solid fast connection that I have used many times over the past month, including a couple of web demos during meetings without a hitch. Checking email on my laptop while on the road is quick and painless. I hate that they charge for it (Verizon) but it works like a champ.

Before I got my Verizon 8830 I priced an 8800 on AT&T and with unlimited data plan and as many minutes as I have now the price difference was only about $10/month, at least in my area. I decided to pay for the coverage.

Acutally VZW will block your account even if you have a unlimited data plan if you hit 4GB. Now I have no idea why you would want to transfer 4GB via your phone, but I just thought I would add my 2 cents.

Actually there have been no reports of termination for people going over 5gb since april cause of the lawsuit that was brought against verizon...btw, how to i add tethered modem to my account online...cant seem to find it on the website.

I think you need to call your Verizon rep or perhaps even tech support can do it for you. I've had it so long I can't remember for sure.

I believe, and correct me if I'm wrong here, but they throttle your connection speed back if you go over the 5gb/month limit. I've also tried mobishark and it is a bit cumbersome and does not work consistent enough to be feasible at this point.

Thank goodness I had an epiphany (sp) last night. I was so about to go to a Verizon store on Monday and have to pay for a wireless card, extend my Verizon contract, and then pay $60/mo to have unlimited data use for my new MacBook Pro. The whole reason I bought this computer was so that I could do my daily work in the dining room of my restaurant instead of in my office upstairs which basically feels like a cave. I already have an 8830 with unlimited data since I'm constantly syncing with my BES, and I totally forgot I could use the 8830 as a tethered modem.

With that said, I'm about to call Verizon and have them add the $15/mo tethered fee. Is there anyway to use the tethering service without having to run both the BlackBerry Destop Manager (which I'm just now downloading for the first time since I like to just sync all my stuff with the BES instead of with my computer) and Verizon's software?

By the way, for work I will be using the Windows Vista Ultimate that I installed on the Mac, but if someone also knows a way to do this when I'm in Mac OS X I would appreciate the help as wel.

Correct, they don't terminate your usage anymore. They instead reduce your speeds.
