Question What are the Upcoming T-mobile BB Releases

Please Login to Remove!

Hey guys,

Hope this is the right forum.. I try to keep up on news about new BB models coming out, but I get really confused with an 8800 and 8300 and 8230 all coming out, don't know which is newer/better or whatever.. anyways, all I'm really concerned about is the next (or the next few) BB's that are going to be carried by T-Mobile. I got the Pearl when it first came out last fall and I'm looking to upgrade!

Also, any chance of a vid camera on a not so distant in the future BB?

Thanks,
yoyoyo

Cool.. I just don't want to buy that if a new model is going to be released soon after that, like within the following 3-4 months or so, such as the Pearl II. What do you guys think?

There are always new models coming out. 8820 may come out on TMo 3mos after AT&T releases it. It's all rumors though.

8120 is the other model. No ETA. It is rumored to have video capabilities.

lol indeed, I'm in the same vote.

8320 suits my needs as it has WiFi full qwerty.
But I'm a BB born on suretype.
IF ....

the 8120 Pearl is the EDGE model with WiFi & the 3.2MP camera then this will do me JUST fine. It'll have teh 3.5mm headset jack that the Curve has plus a better camera ... if the camera & chipset for video are indeed better allowing to record video clips (hopefully with no time limit; save for in built memory or unlimited up to remaining MicroSD space) then I may just go for that instead.

lol who am I kidding I'll get the 8320 as that'll launch first then the Pearl 2 when thats released.

ps I STILL think that RIM's decision for charging ports on the side of BB's is for a deskmount for use of the upcoming 3G model for video conferencing ;) - just my feeling on that.

my understanding is that the device will not be able to record videos, bt a smoother app to play videos is what is coming

A T-Mobile rep told me yesterday that the 8800 might come back, but only online, not in stores. I don't know the guy, so I have no clue as to his credibility.

T-mobile removed the 8800g from stores because it was more a business user focused product and less consumer focused. It has always been available online, over the phone, via business reps and in dealer stores. (unless it was out of stock)

I would expect this to continue. T-mobile will always have a non camera option available, for business users if nothing else.

I might just do that. As there is no firm release date if any for the 8120 on TMO and there may never be one, I just might move to the Curve. UMA is almost a necessity for me (crappy cell service at home).

i just got off the phone with Tmobile regarding my upgrade options and the problem I am having with my pearls screen etc... They/customer service told me pricing info for the curve will be available on mytmobile on 9/1. She also was mentioning the pearl "colors" coming out but didn't have any info on Pearl 2.

I think i am definatly upgrading to the curve.

What does wi-fi on the Curve do? Is it (a) just for data, (b) for voice over TMO with their hotspot@home service for $10 extra a month, (c) for VOIP services outside TMO, or (d) all or none of the above? Thanks.

simply put D - all the above.

There are:

1) WiFi browser for surfing internet specific to WiFi.
2) BIS / BES email over WiFi (seemless handover on either) - BES needs specifically to setup WiFi Access Points configured for BES servers.
3) VoIP with TMobile's @Home setup, personally owned (ie. Linksys/Dlink) WiFi Routers, or public routers (remember your data is already encrypted from device until BIS or BES thru the internet).
4) 3rd party applications from Cisco, Avaya, etc will use the WiFi components - installing specific SIP/UMA/PBX support codecs or whatever for that VoIP usuage - thats compatible with corporate PBX phone networks.

Caveats:
1 - unsure if the WiFi browser will be signifantly faster.
2 - usuage on other networks may not work
3 - How to get rid of that My5 service function & application (cod/alx file references included). Bah!

I have an unlocked 8300 Att but use tmobile service. Will I be able to use the 8320 official tmobile OS on this curve once it's on the tmobile website or is the 8320 a completely different phone?

Although I cannot answer if the OS transplant will work or not (MyFavs app & function if thats what your after);

The 8320 is a completely different phone in terms of a slight hardware implementation - WiFi on 802.11 a/b/g :D
