Default No connection after a Windows upgrade

Please Login to Remove!

I can no longer connect my 8100 to my Blackberry Desktop Manager to sync.
It is not the fault of the 8100 or cable, because I have tried alternatives and received the same issue.
My company runs Windows 2000 and Office 2000.
When I try to connect, DTM reports "Disconnected".
When I try to find the connection via File - Open - Application Wizard - detect connection (to search for the ports), it reports "unable to connect to device".
My IT dept. suspects that this may have resulted from a recent Windows Security Upgrade (patch).
Other 200 users are experiencing the same problem in my company - but not XP users.
Does anybody else know of this problem, or a solution, please?
We have repeatedly uninstalled and reinstalled DTM and all the drivers (including fresh, downloaded versions).
Things are becoming desperate!
Thanks

does the blackberry show that it's charging? if not try changing the power management settings on your usb ports so that windows never turns them off.

Thank you for your reply.
Yes, the Blackberry charges satisfactorilly and if I unplug the lead without using the "remove harware tool", I get told off - so I guess that the actual physical connection is fine!

What version of DTM are you using?
Any AV software? ->disable if yes
Have you tried disabling all Start Up items?
If all else fails maybe new User profile?

Thank you for your assistance. To answer your questions:

I am using DTM 4.2.0.14

if "AV software" is audio visual software - no, I am not using any

We have tried a new user profile and that fails too.
