Default Meetings disappearing from calenders - HELP PLEASE!!!??

Please Login to Remove!

I have been having an issue for the last few months now regarding meetings disappearing from users outlook calendars.

It only affects our blackberry users (all the Directors unfortunately for me!!!)

We are running BES version 3.6.4.10, Exchange 2003 and Outlook 2003.

I am new to troubleshooting BES and exchange so please bear with me.

I see lots of warnings in the Server application event log as follows

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: BlackBerry Enterprise Server Server name
Event Category: None
Event ID: 20000
Date: 02/06/2005
Time: 12:37:24
User: N/A
Computer: Server Name
Description:
{username@domain GetRIMMeetingReq Failed in LaunchCalHelperAndGetResults

And

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: BlackBerry Enterprise Server Server name
Event Category: None
Event ID: 20035
Date: 02/06/2005
Time: 12:37:24
User: N/A
Computer: Server name
Description:
{username} *** MAPI *** CDOCalendar::GetRIMMeetingReq - Exception handled.

I have done a little background reading and most things seem to point to CDO so I checked for CDO.dll and found the following

C:\winnt\system32 - version 6.0.6249.0
C:\Program Files\exchsrvr\BIN - version 6.5.7226.0

Should both of these be the same version number?

Any other places I should be checking?

Thanks for any assistance!!

Check the version of CDO.dll on your Exchange server. From what this shows, you have Exchange 2000 CDO in the SYSTEM32 directory and Exchange 2003 CDO in your EXCHSRVR\BIN directory. You will want to make sure that the ESM on the BES is patched to the same level as the Exchange server - this should ensure that you have the same version of CDO.dll. If, for some reason, the version is not the same after doing the patching, then simply copy the CDO.dll from the Exchange server to both locations above and register it in the EXCHSRVR\BIN directory (but have it in SYSTEM32 for shits and giggles).

Hope that helps, but I definitely would say the different versions of CDO.dll would be the root cause.

I don't remeber the exact version numbers, but there was a known issue with the CDO for Exchange 2003 SP1 which caused calendar entries to dissappear in certain cirumstances. They did provide a hotfix, but i just learned last week that M$'s solution to keep them from dissapperaing was to clone the original copy. Now there is a known issue where accepting from the handhled somtimes gives a red X even though it worked correctly because it is trying to use the cloned copy instead of the original. Right now the only fix they can offer is a reg hack to disable the cloning that would put you right back in the dissappearing eintries boat. So pick your poison for Exchange 2003 SP1 CDO, dissappearing entires or red x's. Needless to say, i think CDO sucks and i hope some day M$ can get it right.

Well after speaking to O2 blackberry support in the UK we have made sure all versions of CDO.dll on the BES are the same.

We have now stopped getting the Event ID: 20035 errors since making this change.

O2 advised not to worry about the Event ID: 20000 warnings as they aren't related to our issue apparently.

I will get our users to monitor the situation and see what happens.

Thanks for all your (very quick and accurate) responses !!!

Similar problem. To fix I had to configure Blackberry service account permissions on Exchange. Had to give sufficient permissions to access a user's mailbox and modify contents.
