Default Using non T-mobile Router for Hotspot@Home?

Please Login to Remove!

I have a linksys wireless router already, do you have to have a T-mobile router to be able to use the hotspot@home service? My 8320 is arriving in a few days!!!

No, you don't need a TMo router. However, be sure and check the wifi FAQ's on how to best set up your router for UMA use.

The only benefit of the T-Mobile router is that it prioritizes VOIP packets so you don't get choppy speech. If your not downloading like crazy at the same time then it should be a problem for anyone with a broadband connection at home.

You don't have to use their router, but I def recommend it. I had a belkin pre n router and calls are choppy, got the linksys router from tmo and everything is working great now.

I'm using a standard Linksys WRT54G without a problem.

Something to consider if your router is supported by dd-WRT. dd-WRT is a 3rd party firmware that can be loaded on a broad range of broadcom based wireless routers / access points.

UMA - DD-WRT Wiki

I flashed my 300N using this firmware so I could take advantage of the WMM protocol the 8320 uses and it seems to work great. Battery life seems to be much better, but I will know for sure after I've got a few days use under my belt on the new firmware.
