Default Question about setup without a SIM?

Please Login to Remove!

Currently on my iPhone; will be using my unlocked Curve for travel abroad. Previously deleted all my books (?) to anticipate selling, but now realize it's better as a phone for travel (obviously).

Is there any way to set up email info (servers, etc.) without a network connection, in anticipation of getting a prepaid SIM abroad and getting (very small, limited amount of data/email?-- of course I can bring the iPhone along and use WiFi).

Other thoughts?

Thanks.

Best you can hope for is checking email via the mobile internet, but you'll probably need Opera Mini for that. The Gmail app may work, but it's doing constant checking while it is running so make sure to exit out of it.

Look up the APN settings for the providers in whatever country you're going to. It might be hard to do that once you get there or you may not be able to communicate well with customer service there.

There are rare exceptions to this. Someone says in Mexico or a maybe a country in Central America a provider allowed BIS service on a prepaid card. Also I know in Thailand on AIS (One-2-Call), the BB browser will work on a prepaid card since the service books download automatically. That's probably only for phones they sell though. No BB email service, or perhaps there was, but I didn't sign up there since it was still on my account in the US.

What country are you going to? Maybe someone knows for sure.

No. First of all, BIS is carrier-specific. You'd need to already have BB data with the carrier to set up BIS email.

Second, you'd have to find a carrier that offered BB data on prepaid.

Thanks! The other option is to just get a POP/IMAP email client for the thing, yes?

if you’re going to Mexico try "Pre-Paid BIS from Telcel Mexico" I have this setup and works like a charm, and when I travel back to the US I just change my SIM card to T-Mobile and it work like it never was SIM swapped.

Specifically, UK and France.

-Will I need two different Orange SIM cards for the best rates?
-If there is data, is there a decent IMAP client available that is good and clean (and hopefully cheap?)
(I'm assuming I can pop my iPhone SIM into my unlocked BB to download/transfer apps online, or just sync it with Parallels).

Yeah, been to Mexico and Thailand; unlocked Treo had worked there too, though the BB has slightly different usability.

Thanks, all.

There is a new Orange PAYG BB SIM available; any info there re: my situation?

Move thread to different forum, perhaps?

Thanks!
