Unhappy My Blackberry is smarter than I am.

I'm sure there are easy solutions to these problems - but I'm lost. I'm usually not technology-illiterate, but apparently I've reached my threshold with this one. I feel fairly dumb.

First problem: I want to stop receiving SMS Text Messages every time I receive an email. It seems a little redundant. But for the life of me, I can not figure out how. I also tried deleting the email address - I figured I'd save some of my remaining test messages so I won't have an insanely expensive bill - but I keep getting an error message.

Second problem: The CD - Blackberry User Tools - won't load on my computer. Is is even compatible with my Mac? (Please tell me I haven't lost it completely!!)

Final problem: All of my contacts in the address book say I am calling a "work" number. How do I even get to a place where I can edit that. I've tried editing the contacts, but it only lets me edit the name and number, not the type of contact (i.e., work, home).

I'm sorry if these questions are very simplistic, but I really want to love my phone. Seriously, it took a small amount of blackmail to get it, the last thing I want is to regret it!!!

Final problem: when you edit the name and number do you see fields for like work, home, mobile, etc.? If not, you might still be in the SIM phone book.

As far as the first problem goes: I have tried the -->

Message list > Options > General Options > SMS and Email Inboxes > Separate.

It didn't seem to change things. I'm still getting duplicate messages.

And I think I may have figured out the address book thing -- thanks for your help Trimix. I didn't realize I was in the SIM Card, I'll have to do a little work to fix that.

But the text messages is my main problem....well, the one that is causing the pain...

I am confused as to what the first issue is. When you receive an email, you also get a text message notifying you of that email?

How did you set the email up on your device?

Exactly. When I get an email - I get a text message. A few seconds later, I get a notification there is an email in the email application.

And I set up my email though the Manage Internet Email function.

Interesting. I've never heard of that happening.

I would try deleting and then re-adding the email accounts.

And then resend the service books.

Also, to answer problem #2. No, Desktop Manager will not work on a Mac as of yet. Just a PC.

Hello, to address the first of your problems, first some questions; what type of email service do you have (hotmail, Gmail, yahoo, etc)? Do you use outlook?, I ask these questions because back when I did not have a Blackberry, I configured my Gmail account to send me a SMS Text each time I received an email, this way I could check my email knowing there was actually something in it, on the other hand, I found an option in my MS Office Outlook 2007 (tools/options/preferences tab/mobile) that if correctly configured you can receive a notification on your cell phone via SMS text each time you receive an email, so I think this could be why you receive an SMS each time you get an email.

The solution to the second problem is just a click away "Blackberry for Mac"
